Andrew Murray, former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, was sworn in May 3 to replace former District Attorney Greg Newman, who was removed April 27 from his position as top criminal prosecutor for Henderson, Polk and Transylvania counties, where he had served since 2013.  
Murray, a former Charlotte district attorney, stepped down as U.S. Attorney Feb. 28, after incoming President Biden asked for all Trump-appointed U.S. attorneys to resign. First Assistant U.S. Attorney William “Bill” Stetzer is now Acting U.S. Attorney.
Murray, a Republican, was appointed by Trump and confirmed by the Senate in November 2017. He had been nominated to the post by N.C. Sens. Richard Burr and Thom Tillis.  ....
