Fairfield Community High School Board Recap from Thursday

The Fairfield Community High School Board met last night for their monthly meeting. The board unanimously approved the following expenditures as part of the east gym lobby remodel project: Healy Electric $27,530 Advanced Builders $48,200 Color Your World $28,843. The district budget is now on display in the district office and will be available for viewing for 30 days. In the Superintendents Report, Supt. Jill Fulkerson stated that graduation and associated activities went very smoothly and the entire academic year was "very solid'. Wabash General Hospital Athletic Trainer Sarah Turner presented the board with her summary of the 2022-23 year. She had over 2400 encounters with student-athletes, attended 548 practices, and 307 games. She further said that their services saved parents approximately $108,242 in medical costs. Fairfield High School School Board from 3/16

The FCHS Board met Thursday evening for their regular monthly meeting. The meeting began with a short presentation by the cast and crew from the FCHS Production of The Little Mermaid. The presentation is set for March 31 and April 1 at 7pm and Sunday April 2 at 2pm. In the Superintendents Report, Supt. Jill Fulkerson stated that she had attended a Legislative Meeting and voiced concern over some proposed legislation concerning school finances and a possible mandate that school buses be electric by 2028. She also updated the board on the large amount of students involved in extra curricular activities this Spring. The gym lobby remodel project is being reconsidered after the bid came in at $1.62 million. She said that some work will still be completed on the project. Assistant Principal Robert Wells updated the board on Summer School for FCHS students. He said that at this time 47 students are eligible for Summer School and several teachers had expressed interest in leading the classes. ....

The Fairfield Community High School Board of Education met Thursday night for their monthly meeting, In personnel matters: Accepted the resignation of Jane Best as Tennis Coach Hired Holden Sandiford as the new Tennis Coach. Hired Shawn Rush as Assistant Baseball Coach. Rehired Assistant Principal Bobby Wells for 1 year. Rehired Technology Director Marc Leighty for 1 year. The Personnel action took place after an Executive Session. The board set graduation for Saturday, May 13 at 5:00 pm. Approved the 2023-2024 School Calendar. Approved a motion to let fuel bids for FY24. In the Superintendents Report: Supt. Jill Fulkerson informed the board that parent/student surveys would be taking place in the near future. Fairfield City Council The Fairfield City Council will meet in regular session tonight at 6:00 pm in City Hall. Items in routine business will include approval to purchase absorption chamber screens for the filter plant, portable cargo container discussion, TIF Surplus, and the December 27th Council Meeting. ### FCHS School Board The Fairfield Community High School Board met in regular session last night. The current weighted grading system discussion was addressed, with FCHS staff members Lori Robson and Tammy Austin reviewing the current weighted grading system and presenting a proposal for a new system, which should be less confusing for college and scholarship applications. These changes would only effect those taking Honors Classes. All agreed that the current system needs changed and the new proposal should be studied further and addressed at a future board meeting.
