The National Green Tribunal has taken suo motu cognisance of a fire that engulfed 7-10 acres of landfill at the Vellaore dump yard in Coimbatore. The fire lasted for a week and destroyed 200 tonnes of legacy waste. NGT has impleaded CPCB, TBPCB, district collector, and Coimbatore corporation commissioner as respondents.
