The St. Louis County Board of Election will perform a mandatory post-election recount Wednesday. The public is invited to attend the recount for the April municipal election at the county.
These are the final, official election results for South County from the April 4 election as of April 13, with 100 percent of precincts reporting. There are 650,198 registered voters.
While there will not be an election in April for any aldermen in the City of Crestwood, residents will vote on whether or not to have a local sales tax on recreational marijuana. On Nov. 3, Missouri voters approved a constitutional amendment, Amendment 3, legalizing recreational marijuana in the state. The amendment permits local governments.
About 137,700 registered voters in Missouri did not have a state-issued identification in 2017, according to an analysis from the secretary of state’s office.
Another 140,000 voters had expired IDs, and 2,000 more voters had forfeited their driver’s licenses.
Under a bill passed Wednesday in the Missouri House, those registered voters would either have to get a government-issued photo ID or only be allowed to cast a provisional ballot on Election Day.
The provisional ballot would be counted only if the voter returns later that day with a photo ID or if election officials can verify their signature based on voter records.
Candidate filing closed Tuesday for a number of governmental positions that are up for election April 6, setting up several competitive races across South County. One of the trends this year is that many incumbents did not file to run again, so there are a number of new faces across local city and school boards.
The Mehlville fire board and the Green Park mayoral seat will see competitive races this year. Incumbent fire board Treasurer Bonnie Stegman is being challenged by a former firefighter.
Aldermanic seats in Crestwood, Green Park and Sunset Hills are also up for election, along with three seats on the Grantwood Village Board of Trustees. Green Park and Crestwood will have a number of new faces on the Board of Aldermen, but no competitive races, while Sunset Hills will have competitive races in all four wards. And for the first time in recent memory, Grantwood Village will have competitive races.
