Crimestoppers is offering a reward for the person or persons who entered a building owned by Shawn Kessel and stole items on July 21st. Items stolen were two large gun safes, a 22 caliber semi-automatic rifle of an unknown model, Nintendo and Xbox gaming systems, a 13" color tv, a cellular trail camera, and a Dewalt Sawzall. The Fairfield City Council met Tuesday night. After approval of minutes and bills, Joseph Harrelson of 809 George St. addressed the council during public session. Harrelson, who has resided on George St. for 14 years is seeking extra patrols and help from the city to address issues in his neighborhood, which he says is a drug area that needs to be cleaned up. Harrelson claims to have had his property damaged on multiple occasions, including the breaking of the windows on his house and the killing of his dogs. In routine business, the purchase of a police vehicle was pulled from the agenda due to the dealership being unable to take the order for the truck until October. The council discussed the police eligibility list stating that as of last Friday the city had four applicants, however one applicant had withdrawn. Of the three remaining, all passed the written testing and will be allowed to do the physical agility testing on Saturday. Over 20 people have now tested over the past month,

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from noon today until 11 p.m. Wednesday for portions of south-central, southwest, and west-central Illinois. The jet stream is going to be pushing into the upper Midwest which will keep storms and cooler temperatures to our north. This will allow dangerous heat to build into our region. Heat indices could reach between 100 and 105 today, with index values possibly reaching around 110 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Headlines for Sunday, July 3rd

One man died and another was seriously injured in a plane crash at roughly 11:30 a.m. Saturday near St. Jacob, according to Illinois State Police. The plane, a White Piper Comanche 250, took off from nearby St. Louis Metro East Airport/Shafer Field, police said in a news release. The plane lost altitude for unknown reasons and crashed just west of the intersection of Illinois Route 4 and Keck Road. Robert L. Binger, a 60-year-old man from Lake City, Florida, died in the crash. Buck E. Martin, 39, of Edwardsville, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. An investigation into the crash was ongoing as of Saturday afternoon. A New York City based non-profit foundation has paid off the entire home mortgage for the family of fallen Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Riley of Cisne. The Stephen Siller Tunnel Foundation paid off the mortgages of 22 fallen heroes in observance of the Fourth of July. The Tunnel to Tower Foundation was named after a New York Firefighter was killed in the 911 attack on the World Trade Center towers. Sean Riley was gunned down in the early morning hours of December 29th, 2021 as he responded to a motorist assist on Interstate 64. His killer, Ray E. Tate of Kentucky is now serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Wayne City police arrested 41-year-old Fairfield resident Christopher J. Cunningham Thursday afternoon. He was charged with aggravated reckless driving and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude police.
