A New York City based non-profit foundation has paid off the entire home mortgage for the family of fallen Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Riley of Cisne. The Stephen Siller Tunnel Foundation paid off the mortgages of 22 fallen heroes in observance of the Fourth of July. The Tunnel to Tower Foundation was named after a New York Firefighter was killed in the 911 attack on the World Trade Center towers. Sean Riley was gunned down in the early morning hours of December 29th, 2021 as he responded to a motorist assist on Interstate 64. His killer, Ray E. Tate of Kentucky is now serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Wayne City police arrested 41-year-old Fairfield resident Christopher J. Cunningham Thursday afternoon. He was charged with aggravated reckless driving and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude police. Cunningham was taken to the Wayne County Jail and held, pending an appearance before a judge to set bond. Several other municipalities will have Independence Day activities over the holiday weekend. The Village of Cisne will have fireworks today at dusk at the ballfield. Carmi will hold its event Monday at 9 at the White County Fairgrounds, and the Carmi Chamber will also host a tailgate event from 6 to 9 at the Carmi Horizon Healthcare Clinic parking lot. Flora's festivities will be held Monday at dusk at the ballfield on the south side of town. The City of Albion will not put on a display. The Wayne/Edwards County FSA Office says maps are available for acreage reporting purposes, and anyone wanting to receive their maps should call the office at 842-7602. The reporting deadline for prevent plant soybeans and milo is this Tuesday, and all row crops and CRP must be reported by the 15th. For failed crops, people must notify the office prior to the destruction of the crops. In order to maintain program eligibility and benefits, people must file timely acreage reports, failure to file a report by the applicable deadline may cause ineligibility for future program benefits. FSA will not accept acreage reports provided more than a year after the acreage reporting deadline, and producers are encouraged to file as soon as planting is completed. Fairfield Memorial Hospital will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on August 17th from 10:30 to 3:30. The drive will be held at the FMH Education Annex Building at 203 Northwest 10th Street in Fairfield, and anyone wanting to schedule an appointment can visit redcrossblood.org with sponsor code "FairfieldMemorial" or call Shauna Williams at 847-8242. The City of Fairfield will hold its Independence Day activities tomorrow at Southwest Park. Vendors and food trucks will be at the park at 5 with live music scheduled before fireworks kick off at dusk. Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Libby Lingafelter says any vendor who wants to attend is welcome to do so at no charge, but they will need to provide their own power. She also says the Chamber needs to know the number of vendors who are attending in order to secure enough space. The City says Sunrise Sanitation trash routes will be on a one-day delay next week; there will be no service on Monday in observance of Independence Day. Meanwhile, the Skillet Fork at Wayne City has a reading of 4.99 feet (flood stage is 15 ft.). The Little Wabash below Clay City is at 5.33 feet (flood stage is 18 ft.). Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 1.23 feet, and the Little Wabash at Main Street in Carmi reads 5.16 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel sits at 4.41 feet. Its flood stage is at 19 feet.
