Disasters, responses to fires, hurricanes, and epidemics in colonial america, famine suffered by the donner party en route to california, irish immigrants fleeing the potato famine and the ability to create new lives in this country, disaster tourism, the johnstown flood of 1889, the impact of the fire in new york city, and disaster art that emerged from the 1930s dust bowl.
