Sulphur Mayor Mike Danahay said âoutside interest from environmental groups that have been brought into the situation are trying to change the narrativeâ when it comes to plans for improving the Verdine Water Plant. Danahay, speaking to members of L.I.F.T. who were meeting at Hixon Funeral Home in Sulphur, was referring to the Brockovich Report and recent social posts by that group. The following is from a May 15 post: âSulphur Drinking Water is NOT SAFE . not even close. Itâs not just the iron and manganese making the water unpalatable. Sulphurâs water is very corrosive with a pH of 6. It is destroying the infrastructure, your plumbing, hot water heater, fixtures and appliances.â ....
Sulphur Mayor Mike Danahay addressed the current situation of the city s water issues due to the winter storm blanketing SWLA. Mayor Danahay told KPLC Sulphur residents need to turn off their water faucet drips because the city can t build the water pressure back up until they do. He also said city crews have gone through and shut off water pipes with leaks they have come across. Crews will continue to look for leaks and shut those lines down to allow the city s water storage tanks to fill back up. Danahay went on to say it s critical the city can build its water pressure back up for the local hospital, clinics, and the fire department. He said West Cal Cam Hospital isn t able to perform some of their normal operations because of the lowered water pressure. ....
