Downtown Elizabethton to hold new 5K foot race


ELIZABETHTON — Main Street Elizabethton has announced a new 5K race to be run during the Independence Day weekend.
The Firefly 5K Run/Walk will be held on Friday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. Participants can run or walk throughout downtown Elizabethton and even enjoy live music during their competition. The race is part of the July First Friday celebration. The band Monday Night Social will perform live at Covered Bridge Park from 7-9 p.m., so participants of the race can enjoy the live music as they complete the race after running and walking through the Covered Bridge.
Proceeds from the race go to support Main Street Elizabethton in its effort to encourage the growth and development of downtown shopping, dining and entertainment, as well as elevate the natural resources to become a family-friendly mountain recreation hub. ....

Elizabethton City Council approves several downtown events for spring


ELIZABETHTON — After a year of pandemic, with many of Elizabethton’s most beloved annual events canceled to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in 2020, the Elizabethton City Council is showing faith that 2021 will be a more normal year.
The council unanimously approved several events that are likely to draw a large crowd. These include some of the longtime favorites, like the weekly downtown cruise-in. Others are first-time events, like the Music and Miles Half Marathon. One popular event which has yet to be approved for this year is the city’s biggest festival, Covered Bridge Days, which may have to go later than normal because of renovations on the Elk Avenue Bridge. ....
