JOY at Portobello, the outdoor restaurant and retail space created by chef Stevie Parle, is facing an uncertain future that could see it close just a month after reopening.
The space, which was opened last summer on the site once home to Parle s beloved Dock Kitchen at London s Portobello Dock, is preparing to relaunch when restrictions on outdoor hospitality settings ease on 12 April, with
reservations set to open today (17 March).
However, the fate of Parle s residency remains up in the air, with the chef struggling to secure a reasonable rent rate in order to take on the site on a longer-term basis.

Restaurants, pubs and hotels reopen for outdoor dining on April 12th and for indoor dining on May 17th (both compliant with the Rule of Six), and already, operators are reporting a surge of bookings that far exceeds anything they saw last summer. So if you have your heart set on the hottest restaurants around, now is the time to book.
Restaurants across the capital have opened their reservations for al fresco dining from 12 April following the Government’s announcement of its post-lockdown roadmap.
With restaurants able to reopen for outside dining only from 12 April, restaurants that have some outside space have announced that they will be taking advantage of the early opening date – with dine-in not permitted until 17 May at the earliest.
Restaurant group D&D London say it will be reopening a selection of its roof terraces, including at its Kings Cross-based German Gymnasium, Bluebird in Chelsea, Le Pont de la Tour in Shad Thames and Skylon on the Southbank.
