Dr. Yabra as an expert on 19th century native american history, and shes got special interest in the interactions between Indigenous People and people of african descent during the 19th century. So her first book was race and the Cherokee Nation sovereignty in the 19th century, and her most recent book is called choctaw confederates the American Civil War in indian country. And of course you recognize the title. That book is the subject of tonights talk and its also basically brand new. I noticed its official publication date was exactly two weeks ago. Here when the front two cars snapped off the trailing six. Around 40 passengers had to be taken off the 7000 series train. Thankfully, no one was injured. One woman recorded this video as metro employees escorted her down the rocky rail bed. Her trek about the length of a football field. Metro has not said if it cut power to the third rail before evacuating passengers. It also isnt sure just how fast the train was going when the cars dislodged. Red line trains single tracked for an hour as crews worked to fix things. We did check our archives and we found this isnt the first time something to this effect has happened. In january, a green line train disconnected near the Navy Yard Ballpark station. Metro customers contend this is merely the latest black eye for the mass transit agency. Constantly its been stuff happening on metro. Whether a new train or older train, stuff like that shouldnt be happening. Metro needs to step up ....
