STAMFORD A New Jersey man was extradited over the weekend and charged with stealing $21,000 worth of Bitcoin out of a Stamford man’s online exchange used to trade and store his cryptocurrency.
Blaik Stanley, 21, of Brick Township, N.J., was hit with felony charges of first-degree larceny and identity theft and released after posting $150,000 court appearance bond.
Lt. Tom Scanlon credited the police department’s team of financial crime investigators, including the lead investigator on the case, Michael Stempien. He said police have noticed a recent trend involving the theft of Bitcoin.
