Queen gives Maundy Money to Worcestershire duo

MONEY: Ruth Wintle and Kevin Down TWO dedicated church members have received ‘Maundy Money’ from the Queen in recognition of their service to church and community over many years. The money is distributed by HM the Queen every Maundy Thursday and she is normally assisted by Bishop John in his role as Lord High Almoner. It is traditionally given to the same number of men and women as the monarch’s age, and recognises individuals for their Christian service. This year the Reverend Ruth Wintle, 89, member of St Thomas, Crown East in the Worcestershire West Rural Team and Kevin Down, 82, member of St George’s RC Church in Worcester, have received the money.

Virtual 3 Peaks challenge buys laptops for pupils in need

Mrs Dee Statham walked 5 miles every evening after school with her dog Flossy Helen was one of seven people connected to the school who took part in the challenge to walk or run the equivalent of the Three Peaks distance - 23 miles (37 km) - on pavement, field, back garden or treadmill over three to five days. Also taking part was St George s head teacher Dee Statham, who walked five miles every evening after school with her dog Flossy and Canon Alan Sheridan, former parish priest of St George’s RC Church, who walked the distance on his treadmill. Rebecca Mullen ran most of the distance and finished the last 2km with her family
