Blazers blue-liner from Saanich, Sean Strange, ready for last career game against Royals


Flying under the radar in this Island defensive horn of plenty has been Sean Strange of Saanich, who has carved out a steady four-season junior career with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL. That is despite going only in the 10th round, 202nd overall, in the 2015 bantam draft as Kamloops’ final pick.
“People didn’t have too high expectations of me but I worked hard each season, and also during summers back home on the Island, and I’m proud of my career,” said the graduate of the Saanich Minor Hockey Association and South Island Royals midget team.

Jeremy Matte didn’t keep every puck out of the net, but he still got a shutout.
Matte stopped 26 shots Saturday as the Cariboo Cougars downed the South Island Royals in a B.C. Major Midget League game at the CN Centre, but one puck did get by him.
With the Cougars up 2-0 early in the third period, South Island got the puck into the Cariboo goal, but the officials rules it had been intentionally directed in by a Royals player with his body, and the goal was disallowed. ....
