South Dakota FFA to debut Ag Adventure Zone at Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo

South Dakota FFA will spotlight agriculture in the Rodeo Zone during the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo in Rapid City (Jan. 29-Feb.6) with the launch of the FFA Ag Adventure Zone.
The FFA Ag Adventure Zone is a joint effort of SD FFA and Sutton Rodeo/Rodeo Rapid City. Located in the Ice Arena at the Rapid City Civic Center, it will feature interactive and educational exhibits as well as presentations by industry speakers.
Dani Herring, South Dakota FFA Executive Secretary, says the Ag Adventure Zone is patterned after the popular Ag Adventure Center coordinated by SD FFA annually at the South Dakota State Fair. She says the two activities share the same motto: ‘To showcase modern agricultural practices, communicate commitment to natural resources and demonstrate wholesome, safe food production.’ ....

PIERRE, SD – Interim Agriculture Secretary Hunter Roberts and several team members outlined the proposed merger of the Ag Department and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee last week. State Senator Josh Klumb of Mount Vernon is the committee vice-chairman.
“Unless the merger is challenged, it will go through. They were simply advising us of how it would operate,” shared Klumb.
The South Dakota Farmer’s Union opposes the merger and in response to the plan by the Governor, is crafting legislation that would make the Secretary of Agriculture an elected office rather than a gubernatorial appointee. ....
