Rideshare driver accused of assaulting woman in Boston Updated 11:54 AM; A rideshare driver is accused of assaulting a woman in Boston last week, according to authorities. The woman entered the Boston Police Department’s District 14 station in Brighton on April 14 to report she was assaulted by the driver, officials said. Detectives from the department’s Sexual Assault Unit were able to identify the driver, 25-year-old Sonpreet Singh, and obtain an arrest warrant for him, according to a statement from the department. Singh went to District 14 three days later to surrender himself, police said. The Somerville man was arrested on a straight warrant for indecent assault and battery on a person over 14. He will be arraigned in Brighton District Court. ....
Mr. Singh is a hard-working young man with no prior criminal convictions and we look forward to a trial in this case, his attorney, Vikas Dhar, said Tuesday. Uber also issued a statement of its own, saying, What s been reported is deeply troubling. The driver s access to the app has been removed and we thank local law enforcement for their swift action.
