Monroe County Schools Superintendent Mike Hinkman says there is a need for events like this.
“We’ve got a lot of people that are struggling,” Hinkman said. “A lot of people are unemployed right now, and we’re just glad to be able to do something to provide some help for our families and community members.”
1,200 boxes of food were handed out at the giveaway Tuesday. The event started at 10 a.m. and finished up 25 minutes earlier than originally planned, because the food was gone. ....
