Quake-affected CAR cops get P7.3-M aid from colleagues

BAGUIO CITY - Police officers in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), mostly assigned in Abra, have received almost PHP7.3 million in financial assistance from fellow officers in other regions. Capt. Marnie Abellanida, Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PROCor), told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that 413 PNP personnel affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake last July 27 have received cash assistance. The aid came from the PHP7,296,227 cash donations pooled by police regional offices in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. PH detects its first two cases of Omicron BA.2.75

MANILA - The country has logged its first two cases of Omicron BA.2.75 subvariant, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday. In a press briefing, DOH officer-in-charge Ma. Rosario Vergeire said both cases were from Western Visayas and were already tagged as recovered. The BA.2.75 strain, unofficially dubbed "Centaurus", was first detected in India in May this year. About 1,015 additional BA.5 cases were also detected in all regions except in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao and three returning overseas Filipinos tested for the subvariant. Of the tally, 883 have already recovered, while 84 are still undergoing isolation. The DOH is still verifying the status of the remaining 48 cases. There were also 26 new BA.4 cases detected. Dengue cases up by 83% from January 1 to July 2

MANILA - The country has logged 65,190 dengue cases from January 1 to July 2 this year, 83 percent higher than the figures in the same period in 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday. In a Viber message to reporters, the DOH noted that cases for the same period last year totaled 35,715. A total of 274 deaths due to dengue were reported nationwide 36 in January; 32 in February; 39 in March; 46 in April; 63 in May; and 58 in June. Most of the dengue cases were reported in Central Luzon with 9,448 or 14 percent; Central Visayas, 7,771 or 12 percent; and Zamboanga Peninsula, 5,708 or 9 percent. For the period of June 5 to July 2, about 16,324 cases were recorded. Of the tally, 3,196 or 20 percent were from Central Luzon; 1,703 or 10 percent from Central Visayas; and 1,729 or 11 percent from the National Capital Region (NCR). DOH open to reviewing Dengvaxia data, benefits: exec
