Died was part of war. margaret brotheridge never knew her father. she was born just 19 days after he was killed leading the first attack just minutes after midnight on d day. he was chosen to go first, and i understand he got drunk as soon as he was chosen because he knew he d probably be potted first. but if you re in the army, you are trained to do a job, aren t you? born in smethwick, lieutenant den brotheridge was one of 181 hand picked soldiers who packed into six gliders late on the night of monday, the 5th ofjune, 1944. their destination two small bridges in normandy. it would have been very hard for them. they must have been anxious. so there was a sacrifice but, at the end of it, there was freedom. ....
