South Coastal A.P. reports 2,500-plus infections


Active cases crossed the 30,000-mark in the region
Coronavirus continued to rage across South Coastal Andhra Pradesh leaving 13 more patients dead and more than 2,500 persons infected in a span of 24 hours.
The number of active cases crossed the 30,000-mark in the region as 1,574 persons in SPSR Nellore district and 980 in Prakasam tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours ending 9 a.m. on Saturday, according to a health bulletin released by the State government.
As a result, the overall tally crossed the 1.75 lakh-mark in the region, where the toll rose to 1,331 after seven patients in SPSR Nellore district and six in Prakasam succumbed to the virus during the period. Of this, Prakasam accounted for 675 deaths so far while Nellore district for 656 deaths. ....

Fresh cases come down by over 1,000 in South Coastal A.P.


The gap between the fresh cases and recoveries narrowed to a little less than 500.
In a welcome development, new COVID cases fell by more than 1,000 even as nine more patients succumbed to coronavirus in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh in a span of 24 hours.
Health professionals, who have been working overtime to treat the ever-increasing number of patients, had some relief as only 1,915 persons got infected in the last 24 hours ending 9.00 am on Friday as against 2,958 cases registered on the previous day. The number of active cases continued to be high at 28,724.
The number of casualties continued unabated as five persons in Prakasam and four in SPSR Nellore district died of COVID during the period. With this, the toll rose to 669 in Prakasam district and 642 in SPSR Nellore district. ....

The prevailing heatwave conditions in later part of the March kindled the hopes of Raghava (53), a salt farmer from Kothapatnam village Prakasam district, that he would reap a good harvest. As the April proceeded, his hopes shattered as a majority of the workers who scrap salt from pans have contracted coronavirus infection. The situation is no different in other coastal villages such as Chinnaganjam, Motumala, Biramkunda, Singarayakonda, Padarthi and etc., where the salt extraction is the main economic activity during this part of the year, in the absence of fishing and farm operations. It is like the bitter memories of the Cyclonic storm Laila snatching away their ready-to-harvest produce in May 2010 coming back hunt them again. The farmers are spending sleepless nights as the salt is ready to the scrapped and just one spell of unseasonal rain will force them into heavy losses. The weather system developing in the Bay of Bengal also has kept the salt ....

Prakasam Super Specialty Hospital, Ongole, has been charged in a case.
Ongole police has filed a complaint against Prakasam Super Specialty Hospital for irregularities. 
Ongole: Following a report by the Vigilance and Enforcement authorities, the Ongole Town-I police registered a case against Prakasam Super Specialty Hospital for irregularities in the handling of Remdesivir injections and launched an investigation.
On Wednesday (April 28th), a team led by Regional Vigilance and Enforcement Officer DSP T Ashok Vardhan conducted a surprise inspection at the Prakasam Super Specialty Hospital and discovered only 476 Remdesivir injections, instead of the stock of 533, being used for the care of Covid patients. ....
