The region reports 485 new infections
After a gap of several days, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh registered zero deaths in a span of 24 hours. The region had been witnessing unabated casualties every day since the second wave started.
The number of active cases came down to a little over 8,500 as new infections continued to decline while recoveries improved during the last 24 hours ending 9 a.m. on Saturday. The death toll remained at 903 in Prakasam district and 901 in SPSR Nellore district. ....

Active cases down to 30,584 from a peak of 40,000 earlier this month
After reporting fewer number of deaths in the past few days, the daily toll rose again as 17 more patients succumbed to the infection and more than 1,500 persons tested positive in a span of 24 hours.

In an attempt to ensure speedy recovery of the police personnel who have contracted coronavirus, the Prakasam Police have set up a 100-bed COVID Care Centre where the patients are not only being provided with better treatment but also all the care to boost their morale.
As part of the initiative launched by Prakasam Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kaushal, the patients undergo ‘recreation therapy’ at the COVID Care Centre. According to the SP, providing the state-of-the-art healthcare facilities including oxygen concentrators are not enough to ensure a speedy recovery, but the ambiance where they are being treated also matters. ....

Six more develop ‘black fungus’ infection in Markapur
In a welcome development, new COVID cases came down by over 800 in comparison to Sunday’s figures even as 13 more patients succumbed to the viral disease in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh in a span of 24 hours.
Fresh cases, which remained 3,000-plus in the region in the past few days, dipped to a little less than 2,400 in the last 24 hours ending 9 a.m. on Monday.
However, the death toll continued unabated as eight more persons in SPSR Nellore district and four in Prakasam died due to COVID, taking the toll to 1,429 in the region. Meanwhile, the recoveries stood at 1,500 in the region, including 956 in SPSR Nellore district. ....

While there was no let-up in COVID-related deaths in SPSR Nellore district that reported eight fatalities in the last 24 hours, Prakasam also reported nine deaths taking the combined toll in South Coastal Andhra to 1,673.
New cases
The active case tally crossed the 31,000-mark in the region as 1,673 persons in SPSR Nellore district and 1,130 in Prakasam contracted the disease, according to a health bulletin released by the State government. ....
