KARACHI: The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has in collaboration with Community World Service Asia held a consultation and awareness workshop on the Sindh Hindu Marriage Amendment Act-2016 here.
As not many may know, marriage registration for Hindus living in Pakistan was a big problem. In fact, before 2016, the Hindu population was deprived of marital rights, which were then granted to them through the Sindh Hindu Marriage Act.
Sindh holds the distinction of being the first and the only province to legislate on the issue followed by a similar law enacted by the National Assembly one year later. ....

The Sindh Assembly on Monday once more adopted the Sindh Protection of Journalists and Other Media Practitioners Bill 2021. The bill was earlier returned by the governor to the legislature as he had objected to some features of the proposed law and refused to give his assent.
After the second passage of the bill by the Sindh Assembly, it has been enacted. In a statement issued on Monday, Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah greeted the fraternity of journalists and media persons on the second time adoption of the bill aimed at the protection of people associated with the news media in the province. ....

The Sindh Assembly turned like a theatre on Monday as opposition lawmakers brought with them a charpoy inside the House to symbolise democracy’s funeral.
Utter chaos prevailed in the House during the proceedings of the session due to vocal protests by the legislators belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) near the rostrum of the speaker.
The uniformed security staff of the provincial assembly had to literally wrestle with the PTI lawmakers as they made an attempt to forcibly bring a charpoy inside the assembly hall when the session was in progress. ....
