JOHOR BAHRU: An Orang Asli man was missing while catching mud crabs at Sungai Boh mangrove swamp in Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri, yesterday.
Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Shamsul Khomari Bakar said the man, Wangti Nad, in his 40s, hailed from Kampung Orang Asli Simpang Arang.
He said Wangti was reported to have left the house to catch mud crabs at the mangrove swamp at 7 am yesterday and had not returned since.
“According to his wife, he normally returned home at 2 pm, but when he did not turn up yesterday, she sought help from the villagers to locate her husband, only to find his boat at the location,” he said in a statement here, today. ....

Fifteen Orang Asli families who fled into forest to escape Covid-19 return home


JOHOR BARU (Bernama): All 15 Seletar Orang Asli families from Kampung Orang Asli Simpang Arang in Iskandar Puteri near here, who fled into a nearby mangrove forest on Dec 8 over fears of contracting Covid-19, have returned to their homes.
Kota Iskandar state assembly special coordinating committee chairman Iskandar Pandak Ahmad said five families returned to their homes on Sunday (Dec 13) while the rest came back today.
All of them fled to the forest after a religious teacher in their village was suspected of being infected.
He said a discussion was held last night with the villagers, Tok Batin (village headman)
Noore Kasi, an officer from the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa), and the religious teacher who had tested negative since. ....

JOHOR BARU (Bernama): A group of 40 orang asli from Kampung Orang Asli Simpang Arang in Iskandar Puteri were found to have fled from their village two days ago for fear of being infected with Covid-19.
The action of the 15 families was following their concern after a religious teacher in their village was suspected of being infected with Covid-19.
Kota Iskandar state assembly special co-ordinating committee chairman Iskandar Pandak Ahmad said the committee found out about the matter on Wednesday (Dec 9), and had looked into their situation in a nearby forest area which they used as their emplacement.
We found that about 40 people, including children and babies involving 15 families, have moved to a nearby mangrove forest area due to fears of being infected with Covid-19. ....
