Stop killing the coyotes
These contests, which have nothing to do with wildlife or even game management, are an atrocity which need to be ended.
Even staff at the Pennsylvania Game Commission and related agencies in other states, including biologists, oppose such contests. In fact several states including, Vermont, Massachusetts, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and most recently Washington state have banned such contests.
These contests are often billed as a means of recreation when other hunting seasons, such as deer or small game, are closed for the year. In Pennsylvania, coyotes have no closed season and hence can be hunted or trapped 24/365. These consist are purely killing for pleasure. In fact, many hunters are also coming out against these contests, as they make them look bad in the public’s eyes. That the carcasses are treated as trash, tossed in dumpsters to be landfilled, rather than used for food as are deer and other game species, is telling. ....
