Popcorn World fills record order for 11,000 bags


Popcorn World in Gary recently filled a record order for 11,000 bags of popcorn for the German health care company Fresenius Kabi, which locally operates dialysis centers in Hammond, Munster, Dyer, Merrillville, Crown Point, Hobart, Gary, East Chicago and Portage.
The store at 2560 Garfield St., by Fresh Country Market in Gary, landed the order after Fresenius sales reps were impressed with its gourmet specialty popcorn.
When I first read the order, I thought it said 1,100 until my husband corrected me, said Nina Burton, who co-owns Popcorn World with husband LeBarron Burton Sr. I m tired, but the good kind of tired. We pulled together as a team and a village to get this order done. ....

U.S. Steel makes big purchase of NanoSteel patents to produce more advanced high-strength steels


Steelmakers normally deal in tonnage, but U.S. Steel is going nano.
The Pittsburgh-based steelmaker, one of Northwest Indiana s largest employers, is buying flat-rolled patents and trademarks from NanoSteel Co. to expand its offerings of advanced high-strength steels, which have become more popular with automakers and other customers in recent years. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Local gastroenterologist earns board certification


MICHIGAN CITY — A local gastroenterologist with Franciscan Physician Network earned board certification.
Zohair Ahmed, who practices at Woodland Health Center in Michigan City and Valparaiso Specialty Health Center on U.S. 30 in Porter County, got board certified in interventional gastroenterology, meaning he has shown he meets nationally recognized standards for education, knowledge, experience and skills.
