As U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky often did before him, U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan appeared before the International Trade Commission Thursday to testify on behalf of local steel mills against the import of seamless line and pressure pipe steel products.
As many of you know, the First Congressional District of Indiana is a recognized leader in steel production and related downstream products. Additionally, I believe that you are familiar with my predecessor, Congressman Pete Visclosky, who has been a long-time friend and mentor to me. Indiana Secretary of Commerce steps down


Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger is stepping down from his role overseeing the Indiana Economic Development Corp., which leads economic development efforts in the Hoosier state.
“Today, I reluctantly received and accepted Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger’s resignation. He informed me it was the right time for him to step down immediately and I have accepted his decision,” Gov. Eric Holcomb said. “During Jim’s time at the helm of the Indiana Economic Development Corp., our state has experienced record-breaking job commitments, increasing average wages and strong capital investment. I am tremendously grateful to Jim for his long service to the state of Indiana. ....

Most business owners say they will encourage or require employees to get vaccine, study finds


About three-fourths of small and mid-sized business owners plan to either require employees to get the coronavirus vaccine or encourage them to do so, a survey by PNC Bank found.
The Pittsburgh-based bank, which has several branches in Northwest Indiana, found during its semi-annual national small business survey that most business owners believe the vaccine will drive the recovery.
About 48% of those surveyed said they would mandate employee vaccinations, while a third plan to provide information about the vaccine against the virus that has killed more than 500,000 Americans thus far, including more than 12,000 Indiana residents.

Wintrust has gotten nearly 7,000 PPP loan requests totaling $1.27 billion


Wintrust has gotten nearly 7,000 loan applications for the latest round of the Paycheck Protection Program meant to offer small business owners relief during the coronavirus pandemic.
