Shirin Gibson began her career as an educator in Manatee County in 1996, working as a teacher’s aide at Daughtrey Elementary School. Over the next 24 years, she rose through the ranks to become a teacher, assistant principal, principal and eventually executive director of curriculum and professional learning. Gibson died earlier this month at the age of 47. The educator who went from a support role to overseeing curriculum for a district of 50,000 students, earning her doctorate in education along the way, will be remembered for more than her ambition, Manatee Superintendent Cynthia Saunders said.
