To combat this issue, LCDOT is installing snow-proof visors on red lights at all 176 Lake County-owned traffic signals. The visors which consist of a clear cone and a modified visor attachment were developed by Snow Proof Signals LLC. Subscribe The cones form a complete circle around the light and extend out by about 1 foot to keep snow from blocking visibility of the entire light. The visors were paid for using Highway Safety Improvement Program grant funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). ....

December 17, 2020 The Lake County Sheriff s Office is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement throughout the state for a high-visibility Subscribe enforcement campaign to crack down on impaired driving during the winter holidays. From December 18 to January 4, motorists will see an increase in patrols and traffic stops, along with additional messaging on the dangers of driving impaired. Subscribe The Lake County Sheriff s Office recommends these safe alternatives to driving impaired: Plan ahead for a sober ride home. Designate a sober driver, take public transportation or use a ride-sharing service. (Jim Vondruska) Today, Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) began administering the first COVID-19 vaccines, which will be approximately 2,000 doses given over this week and prioritized for front-line health care workers and local paramedics. The Pfizer vaccine being given to NCH employees was approved by the FDA last Friday and distributed to Illinois hospitals by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. The initial supply of vaccines will be given throughout this week. NCH President and CEO Stephen Scogna said, This vaccine is bringing hope around the world. We are confident in both the safety and efficacy of this vaccine, which is a major step in the battle to control COVID-19.
