PLANO, Texas Administrators with Plano Independent School District will address a variety of concerns from the community during a town hall meeting organized by Collin County NAACP.
A disturbing case of alleged bullying and assault placed Plano ISD at the center of national attention in March 2021. A Haggard Middle School student s mom cried out, saying her 13-year-old son was the victim of racialized taunting and assaults.
While the specifics of the incident were not discussed during the teleconference, school leadership answered questions about racial disparity and proper protocol for reporting cases of bullying. In her first open-forum appearance since the bullying allegation, Superintendent Sara Bonser said the district was working to build relationships with Black students and other students of color as well as their families.
“It’s been an ongoing goal and priority to hire staff that resemble the students that we serve,” said Bonser.
The Political Action Chair for the Collin County NAACP challenged the district to become better allies for the Black and Brown community.

PLANO, Texas June Jenkins and Sherasa Thomas of Collin County s NAACP were hopeful for an open and honest dialogue about race and equity at Plano ISD. The group held an online speaking forum on Wednesday night where superintendent Sara Bonser, Chief Operations Officer Theresa Williams, and assistant superintendent Courtney Gober fielded questions. This is not a situation where we can just vent and that ll be the end of it, said Thomas, the political action chair for the local NAACP.
