Auglaize County Historical Society to host virtual program ST. MARYS The Auglaize County Historical Society will host “The Shawnee: Past And Present “ with Jeremy Turner at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, on the Historical Society Facebook page. The program is free and open to the public. This presentation will cover the history of the Shawnee People from the Fort Ancient People to the forced removal of the Shawnee out of Ohio to the west of the Mississippi River. Attendees will learn about the movements of the Shawnee Communities in Ohio because of attacks and encroachment, as well as the forced removal of the Shawnee into Missouri, Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma. The presentation will conclude with a look at the three separate Shawnee Communities today and what they are doing to keep Shawnee culture alive and vibrant.
