“This is a very significant day where we’re about to move into the future,” Lee First Selectman Bob Jones said of the Eagle Mill Redevelopment Project at the July 24 event. “This development is going to change the way is perceived and is going to make a lot of people’s lives better."
While the peace run and Torch-Bearer Awards is a celebration of peace, it’s also a celebration of a lot of other different qualities,” Berkshire County event coordinator Begabati Lennihan told The Berkshire Edge. “One of those qualities is the oneness of humanity."
"After the pandemic, we think that exercising outdoors is more important than ever. The equipment we have in the court is all-weather and the exercises are for all skill levels,” said Lee Town Administrator Christopher Brittain of a new outdoor fitness court that had its grand opening on Wednesday, July 12.
“This is not a run of any sort because this is a race against cancer,” Relay for Life of Berkshire County lead organizer Ray Gardino told The Edge at Saturday's event. “While the weather is going to run havoc with this whole event today, we won’t stop.”
“A program like this is a really good opportunity for young people to learn skills that will add to their expertise,” organization Director of Youth Empowerment and Advocacy Regina East said. “It’s also fun to learn to cook because it gives them empowerment, autonomy, and other skills.”
