TN National Guard 230th Sustainment Brigade Hosting Change Of Command Ceremony May 15 Tuesday, May 11, 2021 The Tennessee National Guard s 230th Sustainment Brigade, headquartered in Chattanooga, will conduct a change of command ceremony near the Volunteer Training Site in Smyrna on Saturday, May 15, at 1 p.m.  Col. John Gobel, the current 230th commander who resides in Nashville, will relinquish command to Col. Christopher Patterson who resides in Ooltewah.  Col. Gobel served as the commander of the 230th Sustainment Brigade since August 2018. During his command, he led his brigade in supporting Tennesseans throughout the tornado response last March, COVID-19 testing and immunizations and civil disturbance operations.    

13 apply for 3 school board seats in Roanoke

Thirteen Roanokers have applied for three open seats on the Roanoke School Board, including educators, attorneys, a doctor and an assistant city manager. This is the largest number of applicants the city has received since 2017. The board is guaranteed to gain at least two new members on July 1. Laura Rottenborn, chief of the Western District of Virginia’s civil division, did not reapply for a third term. Dick Willis, an industrial digitization leader for Trane Technologies, is ineligible for reappointment because he is serving his third and final term. The third seat is held by attorney Mark Cathey, who has served on the board since 2015 and has reapplied for a third term. Cathey was previously the board’s vice chair and chair.

Gaston Chamber Ambassadors provide holiday meal for CaroMont staff

A holiday meal for environmental services workers and for frontline COVID-19 nurses at CaroMont Regional Medical Center was provided on Dec. 21 through the efforts of the Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce s Ambassador Program. The Chamber Ambassadors recruited not only donations of meals from local restaurants but also financial contributions from local business leaders to purchase additional meals. At a brief outdoor ceremony to accept the donation, CaroMont CEO Chris Peek spoke of the unique community which exists in Gaston County and of which CaroMont is a part. This is why we re here, Peek said. We are a community hospital. We are part of a community which treasures love, compassion, caring, and acts of kindness.
