Health departments get ready to expand vaccine age Samantha McDaniel-Ogletree, smcdaniel@myjournalcourier.com FacebookTwitterEmail While many health departments are vaccinating their county’s population of those 16 and older, they may soon be adding a new age group to the rotation after the Food and Drug Administration approved an emergency use for those 12 to 15 of the Pfizer vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices approved the vaccine for use in 12- to 15-year-olds Wednesday, along with the Illinois Department of Public Health. Now, health departments are preparing to add in the new age category, though only the Pfizer vaccine can be used for those under the age of 18.
