Assistant City Manager Len Bramble said Thursday that McGowan and other merchants may only have to wait until June 19-20, when the city hopes to host the Howard Alan-produced 28th annual Downtown Venice Craft Festival. “We are keenly interested in how we might be able to carefully open things up slowly and methodically back up,” Bramble said, adding that the city has been chatting with representatives of Howard Alan Events about an appropriate COVID-19 social distancing plan. “We’re going to be discussing that with them early next week.” After that, Bramble said the city hopes to be able to permit a July 4 fireworks display, then the Venice MainStreet-sponsored Venice Beach Party and the Women’s Sertoma-sponsored Sun Fiesta and the Chalk Festival at the Venice Municipal Airport Fairgrounds. ....
VENICE John and Beata Dale and Shark Tooth Distillery now have their first batch of vodka after their partner, Steve Milligan of Loaded Cannon Distillery, and his crew filled 540 bottles Wednesday. The next stop, John Dale said, will be putting the product on the shelves and a scheduled tasting on Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at Island Time Spirits & Gourmet Market at 421 S. Tamiami Trail, on the island of Venice. “This is my husband’s gift to me on my 40th birthday,” said Beata Dale, whose birthday is April 10. “He said on my 40th birthday, the product is going to be on the shelf.” ....
VENICE – Early this COVID-19 pandemic summer John Dale and his wife Beata were sitting around with their friends Monika Piwowarska and her husband Roy Cook, talking about what they like about Venice. The Dales moved here from Murrieta, California, which is inland midway between San Diego and Los Angeles, and became friendly with Piwowarska – the Realtor who found their house – and her husband partly because both women are Polish and both men are roughly the same age. One thing led to another and the idea of developing Shark Tooth Vodka came to light. Two months later, the thoughts became a little more serious and Dale started calling distilleries, to see how likely that idea could become a reality. ....
