Officer-in-Charge of Shalla Police Station Nazmul Haque has been suspended while OC of Derai Police Station Ashraful Islam transferred for negligence in duty during Hefajat-e Islam s mayhem unleashed on Hindu houses in Noagaon village of Shalla upazila on March 17.
Superintendent of Police in Sunamganj Mizanur Rahman confirmed this to The Daily Star yesterday morning.
OC Nazmul has been attached to Barishal Police Range while OC Ashraful to Moulvibazar District Police.
The violence was carried out after Jhumon Das Apon, a youth from Noagaon village, allegedly uploaded a post on his Facebook profile criticising Hefajat leader Mamunul Haque on March 15. ....

Supporters of radical group Hifazat-e Islam have attacked and looted homes of Hindus at a village in Sunamganj’s Shalla alleging insult to Islam in a Facebook post criticising their leader Mamunul Haque, the police say.

Maulana Ataullah Amin, assistant organising secretary of the organisation’s central committee, has denied its link with the hate attack.
The attackers vandalised 60 to 70 homes and furniture at Noagaon village on Wednesday morning before a huge number of the law enforcers from Shalla and Derai police stations took the situation under control, according to the police. ....
