They then played against Kyetume FC as Cromwell Rwothomio and Shafiq Kagimu scored before a game against Police FC which they won by another 2-0 scoreline. Kagimu and Rwothomio were also the scorers against Abdallah Mubiru s boys.
In what was seen as their toughest outing of the season, the Tax Collectors fought and dumped the league champions Vipers SC by a 2-1 margin. Kagimu and Mukwala scored then to hand Ssimbwa s side a morale-boosting win against their direct title rivals.
A goal from Rwothomio and a brace from Mukwala were enough to hand URA the win over Onduparaka FC in the last engagement for March. The victory was less expected given how the Ndejje club has struggled at the Greenlight Stadium in Arua in the West Nile region.
They undermined us but they were surprised when we showed the impact and I am glad for the win.
This was the second win for the club this season in 14 attempts, with five other games ending in draws and the remaining seven ending in losses. The other win came against Malaba Youth Development Association (Myda) FC. After our second successive win, our target now is to win more games and finish the first round above the relegation zone so we can come back in the second [round] with a performance that will keep us up on the log as we did last season.
Godfrey Lwesibwa would have opened the score inside five minutes but he ended up heading Arthur Kiggundu s cross from a good position wide. Issa Lumu could not connect well with Lwesibwa s corner moments later as the hosts saw another chance go to waste.
George Ssenkaaba saw a number of his chances, including a bicycle kick, and a close-range shot, go out even though he had beaten Peter Magambo as he surged goalwards.
The rather wasteful home side, however, got an opener through Kambale in the first minute of added time before the teams went back for the half-time break.
Ssenkaba s replacement Frank Kalanda, who came on as the second half started, could not convert a number of chances that came his way. His combination with Kambale midway through the second half could have led to a second goal but Charles Lukwago in KCCA s goal was alert enough to deal with the danger.
Ssimbwa had stated Kyeyune was a player who will remain irreplaceable. The Uganda international signed for El-Merreikh after impressing at the African Nations Championship in Cameroon.
“I was not involved at all in Kyeyune’s move to El-Merreikh, they only informed me the following day that he was no longer my player and that is wrong from the club,” Ssimbwa said earlier.
“A player of his quality is irreplaceable but I will have look through the other players left at the club and see if they can help us in that position throughout the rest of the season.”
In his current ranks, Ssimbwa will depend on Brian Nkuubi, Jackson Nunda and Moses Sseruyide to fill the midfield void.
