Another police officer has been shot and killed in KwaZulu-Natal.
The 55-year-old captain was gunned down in what appeared to be an orchestrated attack.
While fleeing from the police, the suspects robbed and shot another motorist.
A KwaZulu-Natal police officer was gunned down on his way to work, bringing to five the number of officers killed in the province in recent weeks.
The 55-year-old captain, whose identity will be revealed once his next of kin have been informed, was stationed at the Umkomaas detective branch.
Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili said the officer was on his way to work in a state vehicle on the M14 in the Roseneath area in Umkomaas, when four men followed him in a vehicle.

Police Minister Bheki Cele has called on KwaZulu-Natal communities to assist the South African Police Service track the killers of four officers murdered across the province in the past week.
The Minister visited the province on Thursday following the brutal murders of Sergeant Makhosaze Mdlangathi, Sergeant Mfikelwa Mtolo, Constable Royal Mfihloyakhe Ndlovu and Constable Mbuso Nzimela.
Mdlangathi and Mtolo, who were stationed at the Plessislar and Richmond stations, were gunned down in an ambush by unknown gunmen in Taylors Halt in the Umngungundlovu District over the weekend.
Ndlovu was shot dead in Chatsworth while responding to a domestic violence complaint.

His ministry says the Hawks have been brought in to investigate the killing of four cops in as many days in the past week.
The latest murder happened on Sunday when Constable Mbuso Nzimela was assaulted and stabbed to death in Esikhaleni.
The night before, Sergeant Makhosaze Mdlangathi and Sergeant Mfikelwo Mtolo were ambushed by gunmen and killed in Taylors Halt, near Pietermaritzburg.
