While fleeing from the police, the suspects robbed and shot another motorist. A KwaZulu-Natal police officer was gunned down on his way to work, bringing to five the number of officers killed in the province in recent weeks. The 55-year-old captain, whose identity will be revealed once his next of kin have been informed, was stationed at the Umkomaas detective branch. Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili said the officer was on his way to work in a state vehicle on the M14 in the Roseneath area in Umkomaas, when four men followed him in a vehicle.
