perry, live from the courthouse in brunswick, georgia, and maya wiley, an msnbc legal analyst. good morning. cal, what have we heard so far? and this was the prosecution wrapping up its case. what do we expect for the rest of the day? reporter: good morning to you, sir. so we expect to hear the prosecution sort of finish up those closing arguments. then the defense will take their turn. keep in mind, the prosecution will have a chance to rebuttal. now, prosecutor here, linda dunkinkowski has done a wonderful job with travis mcmichael testifying on thursday. and the prosecutor, as you ve been hearing this morning, as she continues to lay out the state s case was able to get him to admit that at no time was ahmaud arbery threatening the group, at no time was he seen carrying a weapon. and that seems to punch some holes in the self-defense aspect of the case. she s trying to define key
weapons and large capacity magazines. it does the firearms. it does not say an assortment it bans magazines. it describes them but doesn t prohibit them but the village administrators and fathers are saying it does been magazines. we disagree and that is one of the aspects of our suit. another exception to this ordinance was deleted apparently, self-defense was an exception, no person shall be punished foriolation of this section if an assault weapon is used in a lawful act of self defense or in defense of another but they deleted that. they took out the self-defense aspect of the original ordinance which again further trampling on the rights of law-abiding and it is a travesty is what it is. they are banning these guns on a cosmetic appearance only, not
of whether the prosecution simply overcharged. no, they did not overcharge. i am tired of this question and defending prosecutors. this is what you re supposed to do. number one, you re trying to get a plea deal. if you charge murder two, you re more likely to plea bargain down. the second reason is you have to show alliance with your victim, that you believe that george zimmerman had the ill will, the evil intent, that hatred and that s why he did this. on the plea bargain, on that one point before we leave from it, patrick, you can charge to try to get a deal, which is different than charging what you know you can prove in court, isn t it? right. they focus a lot on the intent during the trial, which maybe they should have focused more on the self-defense aspect. as we both know, the defense of self-defense, or stand your ground, is applicable to
judge alex, i want to go back to judge alex for a minute. we re in recess, presumably when we come back, when court is back in session, we re going to hear from the judge exactly how the jurors question is going to be answered. what do you predict we re going to see? are we going to see another fight between the defense council and the prosecution and the judge? or are they trying to figure out exactly how to get the jury the information that they want? i don t think either side is going to go gently into that good night. we re going to have some disagreement on what the jury will be instructed on. the defense will ask the jury be instructed on manslaughter and self-defense. i m not quite sure. i expected them to pound the self-defense aspect of the case in closing arguments, because it is their key and they didn t really beat that point home.
