Cooking chicken for a cause

The Lions Club hosts its 46th annual barbecue chicken meal fundraiser on Saturday, May 15 at Fort Payne City Park from 11 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Donations are $8.00 per ticket. Plates include one chicken half with slaw, beans, bread and a dessert.
Lions Club Secretary Douglas Walker said tickets can be purchased at the First Fidelity Bank or DeKalb Sportsman in Fort Payne or from any Lions Club member, but walk-ups or presold plates are the same price at $8 a plate.
Prepaid plates can be picked up at Fort Payne City Park between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The club sells anywhere from 1,000-1,500 chicken halves every year at this event, and the money collected goes directly toward funding large club projects. ....

Central Alabama Community Foundation Announces Grants for 29 Nonprofits Totaling $146,003

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) along with affiliates Autauga Area Community Foundation (AACF) and Elmore County Community Foundation (ECCF) on Thursday, May 6th announced Family Wellness grants for 29 nonprofits totaling $146,003.10. Funds from these grants will go directly toward assisting many within these communities.
Family Grants ($23,446.85)
$5,439.20 to the YMCA of Greater Montgomery – to provide five lessons of Safety Around the Water training to 420 Montgomery Public Schools third graders
$13,007.65 to River City Church – to provide a permanent shower unit and washer and dryer for its Loads of Love initiative that provides a place for the homeless to shower and launder clothes at no cost ....

Margaret Lions Club welcomes 20 new members

MARGARET The Margaret Lions Club welcomed 20 new members during a special membership meeting on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020.
The meeting was held at the new Margaret City Hall and only limited attendance was allowed due to safety and health concerns because of COVID-19.
First Vice District Governor Brenda Elliott conducted the induction ceremony and outlined the mission of Lions Clubs International, “To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people from humanitarian needs by providing voluntary service thru community involvement and international cooperation.”
With 1.4 million members serving in 47,000 clubs in 200+ countries, Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization. Lions are recognized worldwide for their service to the blind and visually impaired. ....
