about 160,000 actors voted to strike this week. the actors join more than 10,000 screen writers on the picket lines. it s the first time both unions have been on strike simultaneously since 1960. the union representing actors and the studios are feuding over two major issues, compensation and the use of artificial intelligence in productions. the tv and film studios say they offered the highest pay increase in 35 years and a proposal to limit the impact of a.i. but the union argues rapid changes in the industry along with the rise in streaming services have made it impossible for its members of sag-aftra to earn a living as actors. so joining me right now is the mayor of burbank constantine anthony. he s also a member of sag-aftra.
down. sag-aftra representing 160,000 actors is now on strike. in the coming hours members are expected to picket in front of major studios and streaming services. they join screen writers who have been on strike since may. this is the first time in six decades that both are on strike at the same time. this came during the premier of the oppenheimer film in london. the actors walked out. it is an intense few days for everyone affected by the decision, but affected by the decision that is necessary. we know this is a critical point. and there are difficult conversations. everybody is trying to get a fair deal. that is what is required and we ll support that. in response, the studio said that the union turned its back on a substantial offer of high pay and benefits.
