Civil side when you have people from your own office detailed to the criminal investigation being led primarily by manhattan district attorney cy vance. so those were the two areas where they tried to attack these subpoenas and these requests for depositions as i read the judge clearly did not agree with that and ruled in favor of compelling their depositions. but that was kind of the center of their argument. in new york state in a civil trial, it is possible when you have a deposition to tell the jury all the times that somebody asserted their fifth amendment privileges. so this could be potentially helpful if it ever goes to the jury on a civil side. tom, i know you have some reporting to do so i ll let you go. i promised your team i d let you work the phones. so danny, let me bring in you. again, we are all looking through this filing as it has come in now from the judge. so a couple questions. ....
You say. she was the richest self-made woman in the world. as of 2015. and now she s looking at a very long prison sentence. that in a sense is unprecedented. the story itself feels to me mythic and broader american ways. of great rise and precipitous fall. did you say pt bar numb and gatsby? our may doff. start up culture at large. will there be more legal over sight in a sector where criminal prosecution dried up? essentially. great question. these are rare cases. people consider them very hard to bring. i work cases like this on the civil side. it is routine they ll call when they are called on and just etc. ....
Records to the archives soon, that s going to totally reframe their work schedule for the next few months. very quickly, the new york state attorney general wants to depose trump in a civil suit, e l.l ir. this is going to happen. if it will, it s a ways off. donald trump is going to fight this. donald trump can end this if he takes the fifth. will he? he know how donald trump feels about the fifth, but this is what the fifth amendment is for. we know he s being criminally investigated. now the scivil side says, we wat to depose you under oath. i don t know he s going to do it. he ll fight it in court, for sure. i woke up to this news this morning. first of all, you re on the same schedule i am, because when when you wake up to something, it s hard, because we get up so damned early. benjamin netanyahu called joe biden to congratulate him on his election victory, but later than a lot of other world leaders did. it was after all of the networks noted that joe biden has won the ....
So it has to do with the valuations and what they put on their books. there were some wild numbers that they would use. yeah, i mean, over the course of this, at different points, we ve seen all sorts of varied valuations. we ve seen when the president is trying to calculate or justify his wealth when discussing his wealth with various magazines, as far as his net worth, where he stands in that, versus some of his filings while he was president, the value of certain real estate properties and the revenues that he would say that they would make. $900,000 to $25 million depending on who he was talking to. these things volleyed back and forget. that s why we are where we are today with respect to these investigations. we ve got to kind of start to delineate things between the criminal and the civil side. this deposition is on the civil side. if the president were to answer questions, and i don t think anybody expects him to answer questions in this even if he s called, just, you k ....
What is focused here, it is focused on the civil side. if trump were to be ordered to testify on the criminal side under new york state grand jury rules, they could order him to testify. but it would mean they could never charge him for any of the things he discusses, any of the subject matter that he discusses. that s not necessarily true on the civil side. so, if he answers questions in the civil case in this deposition, he could that information could certainly be used not only on the criminal case but on the civil side. on the civil side when you plead the fifth, he could be asked 20 questions, 60 questions, 100 questions, him pleading the fifth in a civil proceeding would be helpful when you re presenting that case before a jury or a judge whereas if he did it in a grand jury setting we would never see the light of day of it. david, in a statement you had the former president s attorney calling the investigation politicized, a witch hunt, saying the former president did nothin ....
