In the midst of the historical architecture and gleaming chandeliers of Heinz Hall, the classical music of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) swayed listeners with “The Sounds of NOW” during the PSO’s opening weekend from September 29 to October 1. The performance included Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2, written in 1907, and German.
“Here I am approaching 70, and instead of being an English professor, I’m a student again,” writes Christopher Benfey. “Music students go to summer camp, so that’s what I did at the end of August.”
