RSU 40 proposes nearly $17 million school budget


The communities of Waldoboro, Union, Warren, Washington and Friendship make up the school district. 
Article 1: Shall RSU 40 appropriate the sum of $30,938,366 and raise the sum of $16,963,696.41 for the school budget? 
The Regional School Unit No. 40 school budget submitted in this Article 1 totals $30,938,366.00. It includes locally raised funds in the amount of $16,963,696.41, to be assessed in shares to member municipalities in accordance with the RSU’s cost sharing formula and state law. The locally raised amount exceeds the State’s Essential Programs and Services funding model by $5,631,971.92.
This budget includes these cost centers and amounts:
Regular Instruction: $11,534,652.45
Special Education: $6,650,028.65
Career and Technical Education: $72,251.16 ....

RSU 3 proposes $20.3 million budget, a 1.07% decrease from last year

The state funding for FY ‘22 for the district was reduced by $607,345 or 5.98% in comparison to the funds received in FY ‘21, according to a letter from Superintendent Charles Brown.
“The reduced funding is due to several factors included in the Maine Essential Programs and Services Formula (EPS); increases in property value across the district, a decline in enrollment of students, a decline in the number of students requiring special education services, and a decline in the number of economically disadvantaged students. A new Support Educators Association contract is in negotiations and pending approval from the Board and Association that will increase support educators’ wages,” wrote Brown.  ....
