Walter Perry defeats two-term incumbent Rusty Brackett in Paris Select Board race

Read Article PARIS Political newcomer Walter Perry defeated Rusty Brackett on Tuesday for a seat on the Select Board, denying the board chairman a third term. Perry, a teacher, coach and science department chairman at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, mounted a spirited campaign against the incumbent. Perry finished with 225 votes, compared to 165 for Brackett, who had been on the Select Board since 2016. Brackett received the endorsement of Town Manager Dawn Noyes, who cited that the present board worked well together and she hoped it would remain intact. Perry thought the endorsement, written on town stationary, was inappropriate, especially when he said it reflected support by the entire town.

Whitney received 32 write-in votes against Iverson’s 82 votes. Also elected to the Select Board were Michael Iverson, Janet’s husband, who will serve a three-year term in replacing Martha Catevenis. For the two newly created seats, Cameron Hinkley will serve a two-year term and Robert Hand’s term is for one year. Hinkley received 96 votes, while Michael Iverson and Hand each received 94 votes.
