Sault Middle School students of the month announced Contributed SAULT STE. MARIE Four Sault Area Middle School students have been selected to be students of the month for May.  Madison McLean has been chosen as the 8th grade student of the month. Madison is a student and athlete. She always gives her best effort in class and is willing to help other students. Her dedication can be seen academically and on the court or track.   Taylor Meilstrup has been chosen as the 7th grade student of the month. Meilstrup works hard in school, completing all her classwork and pushing herself to be a better student. Meilstrup has exceptional grades and is respected by everyone at school. Along with her academic success, Meilstrup has shown perseverance on the volleyball and basketball courts and on the track field this year. Meilstrup is an example of a student who puts forth the effort and has been successful at adapting to these different times.

Coronavirus update: Chippewa County reaches 1,000 cases The Sault News As of Wednesday, data from the State of Michigan reported there have been 1,017 cumulative confirmed cases and 1,336 cumulative probables of COVID-19 in Chippewa County. There have been 32 deaths because of the virus. On Wednesday, it was reported by the Chippewa County Health Department that 1,995 people have recovered.  Compared to last week’s totals, there had been 989 confirmed cases, 1,308 probable cases and 32 deaths due to COVID-19 in Chippewa County. Per the health department, there had been 1,861 people who recovered from the virus. War Memorial reminds the community to continue to do their part in staying safe by hand washing, mask wearing and social distancing. The War Memorial COVID-19 + Flu A/B Self Collection Test is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday on Nolte Street.
