While all lives are equal in value, I must single out the killing of Acting Station Sargeant Newton Lewis. The bravery shown by him during an armed robbery that took his life reflects the escalating violence and threat to social stability which we all must endure. May they all rest in peace.

Slain cop s grieving dad enraged at gunmen, authorities

May 24, 2021 A father’s grief over the Saturday night slaying of RBPF Acting Station Sargeant Newton Lewis on Monday turned to rage against the criminal justice system and the men who took his son’s life. Anthony Lewis, 69, told Barbados TODAY he is so full of rage over the senseless killing of the first of his four children that he would also like to see the perpetrators who pumped bullets into his son’s body, evoking piercing screams throughout the neighbourhood, die as tragically as his son did. He declared bluntly: “I feel real angry. If I had some sort of superpower, I would destroy a lot of people and that is the way I feel.

Off-duty police officer shot to death in St Peter

May 23, 2021 An off-duty police officer, the driver of Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith, responding to a report of an armed robbery was gunned down by unknown assailants near his home late Saturday night in Rose Hill, St Peter, the first officer gunned down in the line of duty in over 30 years. Acting Station Sargeant Newton Lewis was alerted to a robbery in progress a few metres from his home,  when he was fatally shot by three gunmen, a visibly shaken police spokesman Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss told reporters. Station Sargeant Lewis’ service weapon may also have been taken by the assailants, according to reports.
