'Special needs children can't wait for support'


Talks are continuing this week at resolving the impasse between Minister for Education Norma Foley and the unions over the re-opening of schools for special education provision.
It had been intended to re-open schools for special education last Thursday, January 21, but the plan descended into chaos with claims from the unions involved that it is not safe to return to school on one side while Minister Foley publicly criticised the unions for not returning to school, on the other. It is understood that many parents also feared sending their children back to school but others say special education is vital to ensure that their children do not regress. ....

UK Sport names 27 coaches as part of plan to increase female representation in elite coaching

Today officially marks the start of UK Sport’s new female coaches leadership programme with 27 coaches from 15 sports coming together as part of a plan to more than double representation in the Olympic and Paralympic high-performance community by Paris 2024.
Eight coaches, including the addition of highly-respected duo Jane Figueiredo (diving) and Claire Morrison (boccia), will lead a six-month programme for 19 of the most promising coaches in the UK, all of whom have been identified as having the potential to coach at the summer and winter Olympic and Paralympic Games from Paris 2024 and beyond.
Figueiredo and Morrison join Paula Dunn (para athletics), Kate Howey (judo), Mel Marshall (swimming), Bex Milnes (para triathlon) and Tracy Whittaker-Smith (trampolining) as coach leaders while Karen Brown, who spent over 15 years as a coach for Great Britain Hockey and England Hockey, will act as a mentor throughout. ....

Connecting ethical NZ businesses with conscious consumers, the map highlights local coffee spots, boutique stores, delicious organic grocers, as well as Trade Aid’s 25 retail stores.
Trade Aid’s Sarah Kelleher says the map was a solution to supporting local ethical businesses through the tricky time of Covid. With over 1000 wholesale customers and the current travel restrictions, it seemed like the right way to go. ....
