Days after the final Australian troops left Afghanistan, the man who first sent them there 20 years ago says the government must grant visas to Afghans who helped the defence force (ADF) during our longest conflict.

Politicians from across Parliament turned out on Tuesday for the presentation of a petition calling for modern slavery legislation. 
Signed by more than 37,000 Kiwis and organised by Trade Aid and World Vision, the petition asks MPs to introduce legislation requiring public and private entities to report on risks of modern slavery in their supply chains, as well as what they are doing to address such risks.  ....

37,000 Strong Modern Slavery Act Petition Presented To Parliament

37,007 New Zealanders have called on the Government to
bring in a Modern Slavery Act, in a petition organised by
Trade Aid and World Vision.
The petition was presented
to Minister Michael Wood today, along with an Open Letter
signed by 110 businesses, calling for the Government to
act.
Trade Aid and World Vision and many other
supporters headed to Parliament today to present Minister
Michael Wood a collective petition, along with a business
community Open Letter calling for moves towards a Modern
Slavery Act.
Minister Wood accepted the petition and

Trade Aid and World Vision and many other supporters head
to Parliament tomorrow (29 June) at 12.30pm to present a
collective petition calling for a Modern Slavery Act. More
than 36,000 New Zealanders have signed, asking the
Government to act now.
Modern Slavery goes against our
Kiwi values. New Zealanders have united with a strong
message that they do not want slavery in our
goods.
Modern slavery legislation will make it easier
for Kiwis to expect slavery-free products and services from
companies. The Modern Slavery Act would require New Zealand
businesses to understand the risks in their purchasing,
report on those risks, and take action to address them. ....
