(WALB) - The Salvation Army of Albany said its food stores are nearing a desperately low level and need donations now. The organization is very low on the amount of food it has for both its meal and food donation services. The Salvation Army feeds hot meals six days a week to anyone, currently serving between 80 to 115 meals a day. It also distributes food assistance to people in need. Salvation Army officials said they are seeing a “tremendous increase in need for emergency services, specifically food.” They also said they’re seeing a decrease in donations. So, they are asking residents to step up and help the people in their community.

Herkimer Salvation Army seeks volunteers for Red Kettle campaign

Times Telegram HERKIMER - The Salvation Army of Herkimer has set a goal of $35,000 for the 2020 Red Kettle fundraising campaign. As of Friday afternoon, the total raised stood at $10,337.68, according to Lt. Derrick Purvis. The problem is not just lack of funds, but a lack of volunteers to ring bells at the kettles, he said. Purvis and his wife, Heather, were appointed commanding officers of the Salvation Army of Herkimer in late August. That was later than the usual time for a new appointment, he said, and the coronavirus pandemic did not make things any easier. “Typically, we’d be starting to get volunteers and starting our Angel Tree project then,” he said. The Angel Tree project gives families an opportunity to sign up to receive food and toys for children at Christmas.
